Utility Work Has Begun Under I-695 at 2nd Street S.E.

The previously announced utility relocation work in the ad hoc recreation area under I-695 at 2nd Street S.E. began today, May 4. Access to the area will be limited during construction hours and visitors are encouraged to be cautious when traveling near the area. In the coming weeks, this work will extend into the intersection of 2nd Street S.E. and Virginia Avenue. Future updates will provide further notice of that planned work.

4th Street Update

Beginning tomorrow, Friday, May 1, traffic lanes on 4th Street, S.E., between the westbound lanes of Virginia Avenue and I Street S.E., will temporarily shift to accommodate utility relocation work. Work will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and is expected to last approximately 60 days. Some parking spaces will be occupied to accommodate lane shifts. Drivers should exercise caution in this area and be prepared to follow traffic controls when traveling on 4th Street S.E.

Pre-construction Environmental Monitoring Summary Reports Now Available

CSX contractors have completed summary reports of pre-construction noise and air-quality monitoring, and the reports are now available online. This pre-construction monitoring establishes a baseline for comparing monitoring results gathered during construction. 4th Street Lane Shifts

Beginning as early as Monday, April 20, traffic lanes on 4th Street S.E., between the westbound lanes of Virginia Avenue and I Street S.E., will temporarily shift to accommodate utility relocation work. Updated Community Office Hours

Beginning April 20, CSX will expand its office hours at the Virginia Avenue Tunnel Community Office, 861 New Jersey Avenue S.E. The new office hours will be: Monday & Wednesday from 7 a.m. to noon and Tuesday & Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. Appointments are available outside these hours upon request. We hope this makes it convenient for residents to visit, ask questions, express concerns or provide feedback about the project.
