Coffee with Chuck Presentation Available

Chuck Gullakson, chief project engineer for the Virginia Avenue Tunnel Project, hosted a monthly coffee meeting this morning to update interested neighbors on the project’s progress and upcoming activities. This is the final public meeting on the tunnel project for 2015, capping a series of events that includes three open houses and eight monthly morning briefings. A new schedule for meetings in 2016 was announced today, and is detailed in the next item.

2016 Meeting Schedule

The Virginia Avenue Tunnel team will continue to host public meetings in 2016 to provide information and answer questions about the project.

There will be four quarterly open house meetings, which will be hosted at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, 140 L Street, S.E. In addition, eight Coffee with Chuck meetings will be held at the CSX Community Office, 860 New Jersey Avenue, S.E., in the months when there is no open house. The schedule is detailed below.

New Office Hours

Based on the pattern of visits and inquiries that we have observed in 2015, CSX is modifying the hours that the Community Office will be open beginning on Monday, January 4. The new hours are as follows:

Monday By Appointment
Tuesday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Wednesday 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday By Appointment

CSX representatives will continue to be available by appointment, and phone calls to the dedicated project toll-free phone line, 800-494-1049, and emails to VAT@CSX.COM, are always welcome.

Holiday Work Schedule

In observance of the upcoming holidays, no work is planned on the Virginia Avenue Tunnel project from Friday, Dec. 25 through Sunday, Dec. 27, or from Friday, Jan. 1 through Sunday, Jan. 3. Work is scheduled Monday through Thursday only during the weeks of Dec. 21 and Dec. 28.

Saturday Work, Dec. 12

CSX expects to conduct work on Saturday, Dec. 12 at locations throughout the Virginia Avenue Tunnel project area. This work will occur within the fenced construction sites. Work will include pile drilling, excavation, bracing installation and utility relocation. CSX will ensure that all appropriate mitigations are implemented to minimize the potential impact of this work on neighbors, and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

Coffee with Chuck Wednesday, Dec. 16

Chuck Gullakson, chief project engineer for the Virginia Avenue Tunnel Project, will host a monthly coffee meeting Wednesday, December 16, from 8-9 a.m. (registration begins at 7:30 a.m.) at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, 140 L Street, S.E. December 5, 2015 Section 106 Quarterly Progress Report

DC Water 8th Street Cut-over Postponed to Tuesday, Dec. 8

DC Water has informed CSX that the additional cut-over at 8th Street and Virginia Avenue tentatively scheduled to occur tonight, Friday, December 4, has been rescheduled to occur on Tuesday, Dec. 8. The work will entail saw cutting, equipment noise and lights, and will be conducted at night. Some DC Water customers in the vicinity of that intersection may experience a water outage. Customers can expect to receive notices from DC Water in advance of any outage, and CSX will provide additional information as it becomes available. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause.

Saturday Work, Dec. 5

Due to the heavy rains that fell this week, work will occur at locations throughout the Virginia Avenue Tunnel project area on Saturday, Dec. 5. Most of this work will occur within the fenced construction sites; some work will take place on 3rd Street, 7th Street and 8th Street, outside the construction fencing, and will require additional temporary traffic controls. Work will include pile drilling, excavation and utility relocation. CSX will ensure that all appropriate mitigations are implemented to minimize the potential impact of this work on neighbors, and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience.
