Saturday Work, April 1

CSX expects to conduct construction-related work on Saturday, April 1, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at locations throughout the Virginia Avenue Tunnel project area. Work on Saturday may include backfilling of existing excavation areas and concrete construction activities at street level, and excavation activities east of 11th Street. CSX does not expect the work to be disruptive, and will implement mitigation measures to reduce the impact this work may have on neighbors.

Daytime Closings of 4th Street Continue Next Week

Weather permitting, CSX expects the utility construction work on 4th Street to be completed next week. Additional temporary daytime closings will be required. The closings will take place only between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Temporary detours will be in place when the intersection is closed, and vehicle access to the temporary Capitol Quarter driveway to 4th Street will be restricted. Pedestrian access will be maintained. CSX apologizes for any inconvenience that this work may cause.

February Environmental Monitoring Reports Available

As part of our efforts to maintain a safe, secure project environment throughout the reconstruction of the Virginia Avenue Tunnel, we are conducting a comprehensive monitoring program that measures and records noise, vibration and air quality near the site. The February 2017 summary reports on noise, vibration, and air-quality monitoring are now available. We encourage you to visit the environmental monitoring page as you are reviewing the reports for helpful background information.

NSCP Seeks Additional Mitigation Fund Committee Members

Near Southeast Community Partners, the third-party administrator for the VAT Supplemental Community Mitigation Fund, is seeking applicants for additional members of the committee which reviews grant applications and makes funding decisions. More information and an application will be available from April 1 to April 30 at the NSCP website, http://www.nscpartners.org/fund-criteria-application-form

CSX does not expect the work to be disruptive, and will implement mitigation measures to reduce the impact this work may have on neighbors.

Daytime Closings of 4th Street Continue Next Week

The utility construction work on 4th Street will require ongoing temporary daytime closings. The closings will take place only between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. This work is expected to be complete next week, weather permitting.

Pedestrian Pathway Changes at 5th Street

As early as Friday afternoon, March 24, there will be temporary changes to the pedestrian pathway across Virginia Avenue at 5th Street. The pathway will be moved further east to allow for safe passage around the next segment of bridge-deck construction and removal at that intersection.

CSX urges pedestrians to use caution as they navigate through the new route, and we appreciate neighbors’ patience as we continue to make progress on this important project.

Celebrating Mitigation Fund Grant Recipients

Near Southeast Community Partners, the third-party administrator of the VAT Supplemental Community Mitigation Fund, recently hosted an event to celebrate the good works being undertaken by recipients of grants from the funds. Twenty grants have been awarded so far, supporting schools, parks, environmental programs and enrichment programs for seniors and youths alike. A short video about the fund and some of the grant recipients is available here and on the project website.
