Some Tree Replacement Required

As part of the construction of the new streets, bicycle paths, sidewalks, and required bio-retention areas and underground storm water drainage features, residents will see trees removed in selected areas and replaced with healthy new trees that are not in conflict with the roadway improvements. Although every effort has been made by the project team and agencies to preserve as many existing healthy trees as possible as part of the street restoration, some tree replacements are necessary and directed by DDOT and/or DOEE in order to construct  some of the new streetscape features, to be in full compliance with the current DOEE storm water regulations. Trees supplanted are consistent with the removals planned and approved by the District Public Space Committee and under DDOT Urban Forestry Division permits.
