4th and 5th Street Intersections Now Closed

The 4th Street SE intersection with Virginia Avenue and the 5th/6th Street SE intersection with Virginia Avenue are now temporarily closed for approximately 3-4 months. The closure will allow removal of the existing temporary bridge decks, completion of a portion of the roof of the second new Virginia Avenue Tunnel and final street restoration.

The east side driveway to the Capitol Quarter townhomes has been switched to the original alignment from Virginia Avenue. Drivers will be directed to drive down Virginia Avenue to go north- or south-bound on 3rd Street.

The 6th Street off-ramp from I-695 will remain open while this work is occurring.

Pedestrian access will be maintained across the intersections throughout this process.

For detour information, please visit the project website to find information about the 4th Street closing here and the 5th Street closing here. Signs, barrels, barriers and other traffic control measures will be deployed to guide drivers through the area.

CSX urges all drivers to use caution through these intersections and others affected by the Virginia Avenue Tunnel project.

Thank you in advance for your continued patience while we work to complete the street restorations and the project.
