Anticipated Restoration Schedule Featured at Open House

As part of its presentation at the community open house last week, CSX provided information about the anticipated schedule for restoring and reopening areas of Virginia Avenue, neighborhood cross streets and the open spaces impacted by the project. Among the highlights, and barring any unforeseen circumstances or severe weather impacts, CSX expects to restore and reopen the 300 block of Virginia Avenue in the spring of 2018; the 200, 400 and 500 blocks to be completed in early summer; and the remaining blocks – 600, 700 and 800 – to be completed in late summer of 2018. More specific information about timing will be shared as it becomes available.

Features of the Virginia Avenue streetscape plan include extensive landscaping and tree planting; additional Washington globe-style street lights; new brick sidewalks; a new, separate bike path; brick gutters and granite curbing; and other elements that were selected with public input during the approval process. The restoration plans are available for review on the project website.

The project remains on schedule to be completed within the originally announced 42-month timeframe, and CSX remains committed to completing the project as efficiently as possible.

All of the exhibits from the Oct. 19 open house are available here on the project website.
